London Transport Museum’s Depot in Acton is normally closed to the public but could be visited for open days, special tours and during education activities. As part of an HLF-funded improvement programme for the Depot, I was asked to look at facility and operational improvements, and programme extensions and improvements.
I led consultation with staff, current local users and visitors, and people from the local community who had never been to the Depot. The interviews with a range of relevant staff aimed to understand their aspirations and their negative issues in relation to the Depot. I then researched and contacted local individuals and organisations (both past- and non-visitors) and carried out an online survey followed by focus groups to garner their views.
My report included recommendations for improvements to existing services and facilities, for new future activities and for strengthened outreach and communications approaches to build profile and audiences.
